246 pages, hardcover, color photos by Bernhard Angerer. Smart Move is a beautifully produced book featuring unusual bicycles. The book showcases the amazing collection of Michael Embacher, an architect from Vienna, Austria. The book showcases the "usual suspects" of unusual frame design – the Pedersen with its hammock seat, the Flying Gate (the name says all!) or the Rigi with its ultra-short wheelbase and twin seat tubes – and high-tech machines from Caminargent, Look, Lotus and Corima, but also unusual components such as L-shaped cranks, Softride beams and even a slingshot with a springloaded cable instead of a downtube. "Art bikes" like the Danish biomega are featured as well as a multitude of folding bikes, including a suitcase with wheels and handlebars that fold out and cranks that clip on. Then the rider can straddle the suitcase and ride off. Great fun and educational! |
